It’s tempting to down tools and run to the spa, mountains, beach, darkened-room at the end of the project. All those long days, all those lost weekends, all that pizza, all that pushing pushing pushing to hit the deadlines.
After the break, the last thing you might want to do is put fingers to keyboard or stand at the whiteboard raking over coals, but that is the smart next thing to do. What went well, what went badly, what lessons can we learn, how will we do things differently next time around?
It’s only the smart thing if you then do something about what you find. If you take those hard won lessons and change the standard operating procedure, if you decide how to do things differently and then do those things differently next time you pick up the tools.
Skippy strategy: Then use the lessons.
