If you start with no idea other than there is something worth pursuing, you’ll spend a lot of effort and time finding something worth pursuing. Or, as the Mad Hatter says, it doesn’t much matter which way you go. Contrariwise, the more detailed you are about your goals and priorities, the easier it is to work out which way to go or, if not that, then definitely spot the wasteful effort and which ways not to go.
With endless time and unlimited resources, there’s definitely fun to be had noodling along until you find something that’s actually worth pursuing. Few of us have access to unlimited anything. For the rest of us, the best option is to spend as much time it takes to work out where you’re headed, and then be as focused as you can to get there.
