Interested in the issue

The whole, what gets measured gets managed thing is a clue. What it more profoundly says is, if you care about something enough to pay attention to it then your people will care about it too. Measuring is one kind of showing you care, asking is another – each shows anyone who sees the data or overhears the question that you’re interested in the issue enough to put time and attention into it.
Another profound indicator is when you do something based on the things you care about. Like when you actively engage in reviews and not just tell everyone else to do them, when you get stuck into a crisis and not just turn towards something else, when you promote someone who lives the values and not someone who doesn’t, when you put quality of ideas ahead of status of speaker.
Skippy strategy: Don’t just tell them you care, act.
