Yes, you have to deal with the day to day. Yes, you have to fulfil on your commitments. Yes, you’ll spend most of your time dealing with tactical manoeuvres. And, yes, you still have to get on with moving the stick. It’s never just about administration; getting from one end of the day to the other without dropping the ball or crashing the bus. It’s not a holding pattern. It’s not only about efficiency around the status quo.
It’s about movement, transformation, progression. It’s about moving away from the organisation you had, and that got you where you are today, towards the organisation you need to get you went you want to go tomorrow.
Which means, knowing where you want to go, having a plan to get there, and actually doing the things you know you need to do to bring it closer.
