The big print
Everyone get’s caught out be the small print. Maybe we don’t read it (Ts&Cs in an iTunes update?) or don’t understand it (insurance terms anyone?). Ok. We’re human.
But then there’s the big print.
The major terms laid out front and centre of any agreement – we’ll do this, you’ll do that.
It takes a few minutes to read, maybe a few hours to understand. It might not be interesting against the excitement of doing the deal or getting the work.
But right now, this is the work.
Dig in.
If you don’t understand, ask someone who does. If you need help, get it. If you’re not sure, take the time. If you don’t like the terms, negotiate.
Most important, work out what you’re committing to before you sign.
(And don’t forget the small print.)
Skippy Strategy: The worst time to understand: after you’ve signed. Next worst: with lawyers in the room. Best: today.
