The only thing
Some situations deserve and demand a long hand analysis of the why and the who and the how of getting here. When there’s a big picture and everyone needs to be aware of all of it, turns your phones off, order a bottomless cup of coffee, and dig in until you’ve dug to the bottom.
But … most times, we know all the background, we understand the territory … and we need to focus on two things. What do we do next and, oh, that’s the only thing.
Don’t waste time on history, don’t waste energy on explaining exactly how the whole thing is based on a stream of misunderstandings or missed deadlines or mistakes or Miss Anything.
Focus on the steps that are necessary to get to the other side of this thing, who will take them, and by when.
Skippy strategy: Work out the next steps, then take them.
