The pile
With all the big things you’re working on, the people and team issues, the projects and proposals and all that water you’re pushing up hill, it’s easy to get behind on the small things. The five minute emails, the decisions on dates and who should be invited, the details your people are hanging on … but you’re leaving them dangling.
It frustrates them and wastes their time, which is bad. And it saps your energy every time you see the stack and turn away, promising to return but knowing the time is never right.
Sometimes the only way to make progress is to put your head down, pick the work from the pile and keep on going until you get it done. Prioritise if you like, but any five minute job strung another and another is a pretty good way of smashing through the pile.
Skippy strategy: Work down the list.
