Complex problems
Part of the job is to break down complex problems and situations into their most elegant components.
It’s the beginning of communication – where you bring everyone to a common understanding of how the complicated things work, where you point out how Tab A fits neatly into Slot B, what their contribution to the effort should be, and how things will be different at the end.
It’s the beginning of solving conundrums – where you codify and categorise and corral all the moving parts, pinning down the certainties and holding the moving parts in plain sight.
It’s the beginning of progress – what you point your toes to that point, that point on the horizon, and put one foot in front of the other without getting distracted by all the things you might worry about but can’t control.
Skippy strategy: Break things down to first principles, deal with them each in turn.
