To get any kind of commitment to any kind of project or objective – or even a tiny personal to-do – ask, By when?

Without an answer, it’s just a nice to have; you or they can wriggle out of it with any kind of alternative prioritisation, you can kick the can down the road, they can have it on their list and have it on their list and have it on their list until … forever – but as soon as you for commitment to a when, the clock starts ticking and they’ve given themselves a public deadline and everyone else can start scheduling their own ducks to stand in rows.
