Swivel a chair
To get things done we need the time to do it. To get big or difficult things done we need some clear, unmolested, uninterrupted time. To get things done with quality, we probably need a bit more time, enough to polish the edges and make it shine. You might call it core time or flow time or some other kind of time, but what makes it work is the ability to focus.
And we all need a bit more of that.
The other kind of time we need, slack. Not holidays or hours away from the office, just enough spare time to think a little, to clear our thoughts, maybe to swing a chair around and chew the fat for a while, to engage in a conversation that’s not on our accountability but to which we can add value or fun.
Skippy strategy: Enough slack time to add value and fun.
