A lovely X
Somebody has to be across the details. If that’s you, great, as long as you’re also across the broad sweep. If you delegate it to someone else, great, as long as they can place it in the wider context. Either way, you need command of the details and the ability to position them and bend them from the perspective of the longer journey.
What happens if you can’t manage both? If you loose sight of the detail you risk everything being slightly off, Tab A won’t quite fit into Slot B, you might trip up on a clause in the contract, you’ll build a lovely X when they ordered a different Y. Missing on the sweep means a perfectly executed three point turn that took you no nearer the horizon you said you were aiming at.
Skippy strategy: Playing to win means taking control at both ends of the telescope.
