Bench strength

It’s not a one man band. It’s about the people around you. You may be the decision maker, the figure head, all the eyes may turn toward you when the conversation gets sticky, your role might be to set the tone and the pace, to point towards the desired direction and keep everyone on their game, but it’s the people around you, with you, travelling together that do the actual work.

That’s not just the practical truth. It’s the reality that outsiders see. They see you, and they see around you. They see the people they have to deal with to get things done. They notice who’s talking, they understand when they’re dealing with a singleton and helpers or an actual team with bench strength. 

And sometimes, more often than you think, more often than they tell you, that’s the deciding factor.
