Relief map

When you bring someone new into the team there are a few people who need to know what they’ll be up to.
You – even if this is a replacement, you’ll need to tweak things based on the talents of the newbie in the seat; spend time working out those talents. If this is an expansive hire, be clear about what you were thinking, why this person and what you need them to bring.
Them – even the smartest and most experienced need pointing in the right direction, and everyone else needs a helping hand: the specifics of their role, the contributions you expect, a relief map of the land and guide to their place on it.
Everybody else – just one new member can change the balance. Get out the relief map again, and show everyone what it take to be included in the loop.
