It’s easy to forget that building teams isn’t just about finding warm bodies who have the time and talent to do the things that need to be done. It’s always about fit. And fit goes both ways. So, for a moment, consider less the roles you need to fill and more the people you want to bring in. What do they need, what do they want, how will they make their decision, what makes them hesitate?
And, just so we’re clear, we’re not talking about salary and benefits. We are talking about challenges and working environment, a match in ambition and work ethic, the people they’ll be working with and the culture of the team.
In other words, the things at the top of their agenda are the things at the top of yours. Which means … let’s talk about that stuff at the start.
Skippy strategy: Talk about the soft stuff.
