Anyone who’s managed a team, or been on a team, or seen a team on TV knows that there are some players/colleagues/members who make life better for each other, and some who don’t. Some that add energy and value every time, and some that don’t. Some who think first of how to win as a group, and others who think first or most or always about themselves and their contribution and how much value they bring.
No surprise to any of us that the best teams are built of team players. Or, that if you’re building a team of any kind, these are the people you want around the table.
There are places for the others. As experts, as the people who work on solo projects, in one-of-many situations where the unit of work is individual. Not inside the team.
