The newbie
Bringing someone new into the team, particularly when it’s a new role or there’s been a decent gap since you last had someone playing it, there’s more to do than simple introductions.
The thing is, everyone has a way of working that’s been designed without the newbie being available. They know what they’re doing and they know how to get things done. Someone new comes along, it’s actually easier to forget they’re there, to not know how they could help, or to think it’s quicker just to do things the old way.
You have to make a point of inserting them into the process. That may be as easy as forwarding emails and adding them to the cc list, but it’s likely that you’ll have to remind and remind and remind again. Everyone will get there, they just might need a little prod.
Skippy strategy: Insert them into the process.
