What worked before
When there’s too much work for the people around you, it’s time to build out the team. It starts with the idea to add capacity and capability – and whilst it can be hard to find them there are always plenty of people around who might just fit the matrix. But building teams is about more than ticking off skills in a grid.
It’s about fit. Will this person fit this space in the team (capability) and will they fit this team (character)? And for most of us that means the alchemy of interviews.
The trap is a bias for people who look and sound like everyone else in your group, trusting that what worked before will work again. But good people, the ones you want to work with, don’t conform to a standard model – and they may not fit your preconceptions.
Skippy strategy: Interview with generosity.
