Anchor it down

At the start of the day, the week, the month, you have a pretty good idea of the things you need to get done.
Some of them are in the day-to-day category. Stuff that has to get done no matter what, the kind of thing that keeps the light on the customers happy and the team busy.
Some of them though are in the we-really-should-do-this category. The bigger swings, broader changes, new systems or processes. Not necessarily strategic, but probably.
Then, at the end of the day, the week, the month, too often we look back and see the time filled with the day-to-day and not nearly enough of the we-really-should-do-this bigger swings.
We nibbled. But we didn’t take any huge bites, let alone finish the meal.
Give yourself no choice.
Co-opt people onto the project, anchor it down, hold each other accountable.
