At the end of the meeting, good practice is to summarise the decisions that were taken, the actions that were committed, and the updates that need to me made outside the room. All the way though, one question is critical for every line item.
Who is responsible? Without getting into the nitty-gritty, without rehashing the meeting or getting down and dirty on what has to happen by when, who is taking point? Who will make sure that the decision will be implemented or the action will be progressed? Who will rally the team, who will brief them, keep them on point and report back the next time we meet?
It should be a two second answer. If it’s not, it’s likely the decision was soft, the action was a wish, and the work won’t get done. So … who?
