A and B
Not surprisingly, the moment you focus on a thing, the more you know about that thing and the more you realise you don’t know about other things.
Like when you talk consistently about one branch of your product portfolio, and come across more opportunities for those products and fewer for everything else. Like when your project managers start managing their projects by time, and their time accounting improves even as the outcomes of the project (including the schedule) don’t. Like when you incentivise cost reductions and get immediate cost reductions, but notice new costs appearing later in the cycle. Like when you shift your attention to the underperforming members of the team and the overachievers feel under appreciated and look for a happier place to cast their light.
Focus on the things you want, but first make sure you know what you want.
