Guessing’s ok

Most days, most times, most of us get by on guess work, assumptions and generalisations.
We do the least amount of preparation as possible and wing it to see if we can get away with it.
And we do.
And we let ourselves believe that guessing’s ok.
Some times though, when it really counts, when it’s important – properly important – to us or the person on the other side of the table, no amount of generalising does the job.
Now we treat it with respect. Put in some actual work.
Now the maths has to add up, the facts make sense, the resources marshalled. The columns straightened into a line, and the obvious questions deconstructed, answered, double checked and put in order.
We do the job like we’re supposed to.
Because it’s better that we do.
But anyway … back to those assumptions.
