Out of the way

Red

If only we’d get out of our own way. If only we’d do what’s right for the team, the business, the organisation rather than the thing we want to do, or that we think we want to do when we care less about the outcomes and more about getting our way (without actually thinking about anything).

If only we’d get out of our own way, we’d look at the situation and decide it on its merits. We’d take counsel from the smartest people we could find, we’d look at the numbers, we’d pay attention to the red flags and the uncomfortable body language, we might even take an actual moment to think, clearly, about what we want to achieve in the end game and not just in the tactical moment.

We might still make bad decisions. But fewer of them would be stupid.

Skippy strategy: Take yourself out of the way.
