Start swimming
Some things are just plain hard. You don’t know how to do them and there’s no one around to ask.
The only answer is to work the problem. It would be lovely if that meant opening the file, noodling on the complexity in the shower, and having an aha! moment where everything drops into place.
It doesn’t work that way. Complex problems require submersion. You have to get inside the problem – the data, the feedback, the technology, the code, the thing – and swim around for as long as it takes.
That’s uncomfortable.
It can feel like drowning, in the dark, with nothing solid to grab hold of.
Hey ho.
You can moan about it. Good for you.
Eventually though, assuming the shower-method does nothing for you, grab your swimming things and dive in.
It will make sense. Insight will come.
Skippy strategy: Immerse yourself in the problem and start swimming.
