What X you’re after

It’s worth exploring, it’s worth casting around looking for interesting things, it’s worth chewing the fat and pressing the flesh and peeling the onion.

It’s worth all that.

But if you want to get things done, if you want to make actual progress towards actual goals, you have to work out what are the goals and what is the route that promises the most progress. The X that marks the spot you’re aiming at, the Y that defines the resources, the line that connects to two in time.

The alternative is an interesting time.

An pleasant(ish) meander from where you are now to an interesting other place that may or may not be worth the effort, especially if that effort involves bringing a bunch of other people with you … particularly as they’d rather do something worthwhile.
