Clue them in
Assuming you’ve got the work structured into logical chunks and the responsibilities for each are clear …
Bringing someone new to the table … the what and the how and the when and the where are easily as important as the who.
New people carry the experience (or baggage) of every place they’ve been before. They bring assumptions and practices and work ethic and decision-making and standards they’ve become used to. They have expectations around responsibility and accountability. They know what they know and what worked before, but they don’t know what they need to know or how to make things work here.
Your first job: clue them in.
Tell them, as close to exactly as you can, what you expect of them, how to get the best from the others, where they fit in the flow and the strategy.
Skippy strategy: Harder than it sounds … make their role clear.
