A guessing game
It’s a guessing game. You don’t know what they thing, they don’t know what you think, but both of you would benefit from a little of the inside track. Whether it’s an external organisation on the other side of the gloom or it’s one of your team, the fastest, simplest, and most likely way out of the woods is to break cover and offer your thoughts.
This is what I think.
If you don’t tell them, they won’t know. If you do tell them, they will.
The game then is about what happens next. Maybe they’ll use your insights against you (and in a tough or acrimonious negotiation it’s more than a maybe). Most times though, much more likely, they’ll reciprocate. They’ll step into the light and meet you there. It won’t always be comfortable, but at least you’ll both know.
Skippy strategy: Start with an assumption of sharing.
