The line
Maybe it’s in the job description. Everyone, everyone, everyone is unreasonable sometimes. Customer make demands and assumptions that put all the aces on their side of the table. Team members play like Maradona. Managers expect more, and more, and more. And even that fella in the mirror looks disappointed when there is nothing more you can do. What it is to be a human.
On this side of the table – whether you’re looking across at someone inside or outside the organisation – the question is always about where you draw the line. Most of us want to say yes, as that’s why they ask.
This time though, on balance, weighing our desire to make everyone else’s life easy with what’s objectively right and adding in at least a smidgen of self interest … the answer is no.
