The long walk

Spiky

With an objective in hand, with a mountain picked out, with an end goal spied, then what?

Put your head down, put one foot in front of the other, and make the long walk?

Maybe. But plodding from one day to the next is sole destroying, and without an eye on the horizon, who knows where you’re heading as you manoeuvre around obstacles along the way.

Any kind of long trek is better broken down into mini projects; intermediate objectives, each a foothill or a river-crossing or a valley closer to where you need to be.

Connect the spots.

The action part is smaller. Human sized. Doing things you can see are taking you towards your goal. And the next.

Objectives are lovely as landmarks, definitely places to be, but it’s a daily practice that gets you making progress.

Skippy strategy: Process and process goals equals progress and objectives.
