Enjoyable people

There are people you work with that you probably don’t enjoy working with – supplier, team member, manager, partner, customer. Maybe they don’t respond, maybe they don’t share values, maybe they’re focused on their own agenda, maybe they’re just not good enough.
With some of them, inside or outside your organisation, because of circumstances, there’s nothing you can do. Get over it or get out of there.
Inside your team though, you do have a choice. Do something about it, or don’t. If you do, it starts with feedback – direct, specific, matter of fact – and the setting of clear expectations.
After that, it’s back to choices. Theirs and yours. If they choose to turn things around – which is absolutely the best, most expedient and easiest option – all good. If they don’t, choose other more enjoyable people to work with.
Skippy strategy: No middle ground – they do something about it or you do.
