Mistakes will be made. Good ideas will go bad, technology choices will need reversing, hires won’t work out, processes will be ill designed and poorly implemented. You’ll keep going when the face in the mirror says you shouldn’t, you’ll stop when you’re just short of the breakthrough.
The question here isn’t how to avoid mistakes – although, how will you avoid those mistakes? – it’s what will you do when you make them.
The common option one is to look the other way, pass the buck, ignore the issue, pretend, wish, hope, la la la that it will go away on its own.
The smart option two is to own it. Accept reality for the reality that it is, take it on the chin, wear it like a badge, turn it into a war story, and learn the lesson for next time.
Because … mistakes will be made.
