Everyone waits

We’d all like a team who get on with things. Better yet, a team full of team members who see what needs to be done and get on with it – on their own if it makes sense or building a coalition when one’s needed – pulling together the resources, developing and implementing plans, making their world a better place just because it seems like a good idea.
A lot of the time though, we teach our team not to take responsibility. Sometimes by letting them push every decision to us, sometimes by insinuating ourselves into their decision making process. The result, you hear yourself complaining that everyone waits to be told what to do.
If you want your team to take the initiative, ask them to. Stop letting them push decisions to you, start stepping very-obviously back when they have the ball.
