Managing the reason
If you put all your attention on ensuring your team follows every step of the process, your team will follow every step of the process. The result? Ticked boxes; process followed.
Is that a guarantee of success? Only if you measure success by the number of boxes ticked.
For example, the process says we need to launch the campaign by March 1st.
What about quality of the campaign, what about the point of the campaign? If all you ask about is the date, you’re relying on hope that whatever you really care about will happen.
It’s not about the process, it’s about the point of the process.
Processes are how work is done, improve them all you can. But remember they are there for a reason – you’re time is better used measuring and managing the reason.
Skippy strategy: It’s not about the process, it’s about the point of the process.
