The power of too
Every time someone says “too” you better pay attention to everything that follows.
Too big, too difficult, too cheap, too expensive, too …
Aside from superlatives – too amazing – there’s a red flag waving that’s pointing at danger. And danger can prove painful.
Too big to handle – complexity and scale that’s beyond us. It’s gonna be hell and it’s gonna be expensive.
Too difficult to manage – so many moving parts that we can’t control, let’s see if we can cut back the scope. Or … that guy, he’s trouble with a capital T-Rex, let’s pass.
Too cheap to believe – we can’t do it, let’s walk away. Or … they don’t know what they’re dealing with, let’s walk away.
Too expensive to try – they’ve misunderstood the pain, the need, the cash, the context. Let’s think again.
Red flags don’t have to be deal breakers, but they demand attention.
