With buy-in

If it feels like your team are going through the motions it’s likely they don’t buy into the game or the plan. If they’re not fully committed – to the possibility of the outcome or the process you’re following to get there – they’re unlikely to pull out all the stops, and neither would you. If they’re hedging, you probably would too. If their energy is elsewhere, your’s would be too. Keep giving themselves an out? Yep, so would you.
One option, motivate from behind; Herzberg called it KITA management. “Create” some enthusiasm, make it no-option. Win in the short term, maybe. Lose in the long, probably.
Better option, diagnostics as a team activity. Together, deconstruct what’s happening; this is what I see … what do you see … how shall we fix it?
Suck it up, change the goal or change the process – this time with buy in.
Skippy strategy: Are you bought in? Are they?
