Bottomed-out level
Most of the time you can do things with a level of detail that fits naturally in your head. You know roughly how long it will take, how much it will cost, who to talk to or who to ask to find the person to talk to, where you’ll buy, where you’ll sell. Let’s call it the strategic level of detail. The top down view. The twenty minutes around a whiteboard version.
Then there’s the next level down. A little deeper. The result of iterative thinking and some quality time in a coffee shop with your laptop. Good enough to get things moving.
And below that … the bottomed-out level. Where everything that could be known is known. Where the assumptions and leaps of faith are explicit. Where every column adds up, the names are written in, the calendar is sorted.
