A bench

As soon as you get beyond the stage where you can do everything on your own, you put people around you. In the early days, it’s possible that what you need is another pair of hands, and then another, to do the work that you don’t have the capacity to cover. Over time, the bench gains weight as more people are brought in to do more of the work.
At some point – maybe immediately – you need more than hands. You need skills and expertise and experience that you don’t yourself have. You need people to take over responsibility for things. You need people not just to do the work you tell them to do, but to work out how to do things on their own.
At some point, you need a bench that knows what it’s doing.
Skippy strategy: There’s more to scale than hands to do the work.
