Let them shine

Orpheum

The simplest description of management: to apply the skills and talents of your people where they can shine.

Of course, that implies that you know about their skills and talents, and that you want your people and their work to shine. Which seems obvious, and, erm, really obvious – and in reality … is relatively rare.

Managers too often focus their attention on getting the work done, and not enough on the worker doing the getting. Which is ok if you take a short view – if all you care about is getting to the end of the task, and efficient use of the hands you have available to help.

If, however, you care about the day after tomorrow too, about effectiveness, about raising the bar, about progression, focus on the worker.

Find out what they truly offer and let them shine.

Skippy Strategy: Start with the skills and talents of your people.
